Sam Houston Park, Downtown Houston

Join NSBE chapters from across the city as we walk to help raise money for the United Negro College Fund! UNCF Scholarships support countless students at UNCF Sponsored Colleges and Universities and are a vital part of the nation’s education system. NSBE-HSC members are asked to secure contributions (at least $10 per sponsor from at least ten sponsors suggested) to sponsor your walk. Sponsorship forms are available at all chapter events, or you can download a form here.

The walk-a-thon is a five-mile walk at Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston, located near the Theater District (near Bagby and Allen Parkway). UNCF will provide entertainment immediately following the walk, including praise dancers, soloists, and other artists. UNCF will be providing limited refreshments both before and after the walk. However, we will also tailgate with additional food. We will be asking in the near future for volunteers from each participating NSBE chapter to help bring drinks, ice, and food items.

One of our major goals for this event is interaction between different NSBE chapters. We will be bringing high school, college, and professional NSBE members together to build mentoring relationships and help connect the younger generation with those who are working in their fields. We also hope to increase NSBE’s visibility in the community and plan to use the event as a platform for membership recruitment, for both the Houston Space Chapter and the Houston Alumni Extension. Many walkers from other teams are eligible for membership as NSBE Alumni but have not yet been connected with an Alumni chapter.

6:30 am	Tent Set-Up

Other Information

The earlier you arrive, the easier parking will be. We will not be able to drive up all the way to the tent - parking is allowed along city streets downtown, or in the downtown parking lots and garages. Carpooling is encouraged.

Please wear a NSBE t-shirt if possible, either a chapter shirt or a Region V shirt.

Turn in your sponsor form and donations to your NSBE chapter President or Advisor by Thursday, September 18. Checks should be made payable to UNCF. Cash is allowed, but checks or money orders are greatly preferred. Chapter Presidents/Advisors should bring sponsor forms and donations to the NSBE Mentoring Program on Thursday, September 18 or contact Robert to make other arrangements.
