The National Society of Black Engineers is deeply committed to mentoring activity at all levels.  In particular, the Houston Space Chapter is launching its college mentorship program.  The plan is to acquire the help and knowledge of space industry professionals in helping to guide current undergraduate students towards making the right decisions for their professional development.  We would like to ask all interested chapter members to fill out an application.  From this information we will match NSBE-HSC members with undergraduate students who have similar educational and career interests.  Mentors will assist in answering any questions mentees have about their undergraduate and post-undergraduate plans (contact will occur primarily through email).  Any professional’s advice and guidance would be a tremendous help to the young engineers, scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, etc. of the future.

The program will kick off with a mentoring mixer sponsored by the University of Houston NSBE chapter on Thursday, September 18 at 8:30 pm in the University Center Bluebonnet Room on the University of Houston campus.  (The program will expand to other NSBE collegiate chapters, both in and beyond the Houston area.)

NSBE truly appreciates any help provided from the members of the Houston Space Chapter in implementing what we feel is a vital program for undergraduate members.  Please e-mail applications to houston-space@nsbe-hsc.org.

Directions to the UH-NSBE Mentoring Mixer:                  (Thursday, September 18, 8:30 pm)

From JSC, take I-45N, exit Cullen.  Keep straight on Cullen.  Make a left onto Wheeler.  After passing a set of basketball courts and the Towers (two twin buildings) you will come to a light where Wheeler intersects Calhoun Rd.  Turn left onto Calhoun and continue to the next light which is University Blvd. Turn Left again.  Go to the first stop sign and the University Center will be on the right after you pass the stop sign.  (You can park in the large student parking lot on the left just before the stop sign.)  If you go up the stairs there in the front of the U.C. you can look straight ahead to the far side and see a set of stairs going up.  This leads to the second level and the Mixer will be in the Bluebonnet Room.
